Getting started

What is Waveform?
Waveform is an AI-powered website builder. You describe your business in conversation and it designs, writes, and builds a complete website — real Astro and Tailwind CSS code, not a drag-and-drop template — with a live preview updating as you talk.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Everything happens in conversation: describe what you want, ask for changes, and watch the preview update. If you do code, you get full access to the generated source and can edit it through chat or the MCP server from your editor.
How long does it take to get a site?
A first complete draft typically builds in a single session. You describe the business, Waveform generates a creative brief, designs the site, and builds every page — then you iterate on anything you want to change.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free tier includes one site and 50 AI generations per month — enough to build and iterate on a real site before deciding to upgrade. No credit card required.

Building & editing

How do I make changes after the first build?
Just ask. Change copy, colors, layouts, images, whole sections — every request runs through the same tools that built the site. There is no separate editor to learn.
Can I undo a change?
Yes. Every change is recorded with a before-state snapshot, so you can undo any edit or restore a named checkpoint. Nothing you try in conversation is irreversible.
What is the creative brief?
Before building, Waveform turns your description into a structured creative brief — site type, audience, voice, pages, and design language. The brief drives the design, and an automatic quality review scores the finished site against it.
Does Waveform check its own work?
Yes. After significant builds, an automatic quality gate reviews the site against your brief — copy quality, design coherence, and whether anything reads as generic AI output — and flags issues like placeholder contact details before you publish.

Design & imports

Can I import my existing website?
Yes. Point Waveform at a URL (or upload a screenshot) and it rebuilds the design as clean, editable code. It captures the pages, extracts brand identity and assets, and reconstructs the layout.
How close does an import get to the original?
Waveform measures instead of guessing: it renders its reconstruction, compares it pixel-by-pixel against the reference, and refines through staged passes — structure, layout, typography, color, detail — keeping only changes that measurably improve fidelity. Results are typically very close; complex interactive widgets may need a follow-up request.
Where do the images come from?
Hero images, backgrounds, OG images, and favicons are AI-generated for your site — no stock photos repeated across the internet. You can also upload your own images and logos.
Do I own the code?
Yes. Every site is unique Astro + Tailwind CSS source that belongs to you. There is no proprietary page-builder format and no lock-in.

Publishing & domains

How does publishing work?
One command deploys your site to Cloudflare's global edge network. You can publish to staging first, then promote to production — and roll back if you change your mind.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, on paid plans. Connect your domain and Waveform walks you through DNS verification; SSL certificates are provisioned automatically.
Is SEO handled?
Meta tags, sitemaps, robots.txt, structured data, and per-page SEO are configured automatically, and you can run an SEO audit anytime to catch regressions.
What is the MCP server?
Waveform exposes its full tool set over the Model Context Protocol, so developers can build and edit sites from Cursor or Claude Desktop — the same engine, driven from your editor instead of the browser.

Billing & accounts

What counts as an AI generation?
A generation is a build-affecting AI action — creating or rewriting a section, generating page copy, producing an image, running a design pass. Reading, previewing, and browsing your site never consume generations.
Can I change plans or cancel anytime?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades and cancellations apply at the end of the current billing period. Billing is handled by Stripe and you can manage it from your dashboard.
What happens if I hit my monthly generation limit?
Your sites stay live and fully served — limits only pause new AI builds. Generations reset monthly, or you can upgrade for a higher allowance.
Can I invite my team?
Yes. Invite team members with role-based access so designers, writers, and developers can work on the same project.
